The Purpose of Life; Trust The Universe

I used to believe life had some profound meaning and that I had to find my purpose for being here. I was looking for something missing, something elusive to my experience. If I didnโ€™t find it quickly, I believed, I would miss out on my meaningful life experience and it will all eventually end fruitlessly. All would be wonderful once I found my purpose. My sense of needing to find it only added to my insecurities about life, so I finally threw up my hands and gave up the search. I decided that my life would unfold as it should, and I would be shown the next step when I was ready. Though I surrendered in that regard, I did keep my eyes and ears open for signs from the Universe that I wasnโ€™t alone.

I began dream journaling when I was about 30 years old. I was a divorced single mom, barely making ends meet, knowing that my sense of well-being was dependent on my ability to trust the Universe. My outer reality was a mess, and I knew things could change. I had lots of dreams about water, being protected, and being in school. Sometimes Iโ€™d be in elementary school, other times it would be high school, and others, college. It would be an always flowing and changing experience, depending on where I was at that stage of my life, or just on that particular day. With our subconscious out of the way, we reach the higher dimensions in the dream state. This is a place where we receive insight, and where our higher power can fix our psychology. I believe we learn a lot during this time and then things play out during our earth life. Sometimes weโ€™re processing from the previous day, sometimes we see things to come. I learned the patterns from the images and feelings and then looked for the signs during my waking life. It was fun to unravel the mysteries if I didnโ€™t take it too seriously. Dream journaling was quite helpful and often uplifting. It was from dreams that I developed a fascination with mushrooms, saw my house a year before purchasing it, saw a mare birthing twin foals, had contact with several people in my life who had passed and had my first contact with my late husband years before we met, just as a few examples. In one dream, I was on a small stage complete with other actors and my cat. When my part of the play was over, I went backstage behind the curtain where everyone else was laughing, sharing their experience and having a wonderful time.

It’s not only through dreams that we are guided. We are never alone and if we can let go and trust the Universe to direct us, we give ourselves permission, and the awareness, to watch life unfold before us. Itโ€™s like a wonderful treasure hunt. We start with our birth family and through them, we inherit our tools, skills, and character defects that will determine from where we begin our journey. No matter what our beginning looked like, we can appreciate what we have been given, knowing this was our divine choice. We might wish that we had been born to a wealthy family, or โ€œunder a different starโ€ so to speak. We see people who seem to have it made while we are struggling. Donโ€™t be fooled by othersโ€™ circumstances. The most wonderful people I have known came from very difficult childhoods, and some of the worst came from privileged backgrounds. Each life path comes with its own lessons. We choose our life circumstances for the experiences we would most benefit from. If we think life is hard and we wish things to be different, keep looking for the divine and youโ€™ll find it. It is the divine that is guiding you if youโ€™ll listen and pay attention. Itโ€™s so much fun to see and hear the clues along your path and you gain a sense of appreciation as you become the witness to your own life unfolding and are open to new experiences.

Proverbs 3:5 says, Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all thy ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight. If we could fully trust God, life would be so amazing. We wouldnโ€™t judge things as good or bad, and we wouldnโ€™t judge others. We would always be OK, and present in the moment. Most of the time, however, we are running the show from our faulty subconscious programming of fear and doubt. We insist on doing things our way, only to find out later we may have made difficult choices or left a path of destruction in our wake. No matter, we learn our lessons, we are humbled, and as our path winds in and out of Godโ€™s light we catch glimpses of the divine, the moments of grace that hint to us there is a loving, all-knowing divine presence, we are not alone, and life is so much bigger than each of us. You may not know what the outcome will be from where you are standing.  Just be patient with yourself and follow the breadcrumbs. There is so much good in the world, and you, my friend, are part of it. Give yourself space to create. Meditate, paint, sing, hike in nature, train animals, cook, garden, read to children, create music, write, build, memorize poetry, knit, swim, anything that rings your bells. Donโ€™t worry if youโ€™re not great at it. Itโ€™s the imperfections that make your creations perfect. And youโ€™ll love yourself on a much deeper level while youโ€™re expressing your love through your creation. The Universe is expanding, and we are each an integral part of that expansion.  So let go, have some fun and enjoy the beautiful treasure hunt that is your life.
