Step Twelve – After Awakening We Carry the Message

Step Twelve – Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps we tried to carry this message to other (alcoholics, addicts, codependents, etc.), and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

We can carry this message to other people in our situation, sharing only our story and not trying to fix them. ย If weโ€™ve really worked the steps, we wonโ€™t have a need to fix others, but we will have compassion for them. We can share our story of experience, strength, and hope and itโ€™s up to them to pick up any gems of wisdom in our story if they so choose. We can be willing to share our shortcomings and share how we found a better way, honestly and openly. If we are listening to our inner being, our Higher Power, we will know when itโ€™s appropriate and what to say. Everything works out well. If we are driven by our ego, maybe not so well. We learn in our heart and gut when weโ€™re being guided. We can feel a sense of peace about it, and sometimes we say things we weren’t expecting or planning to say but it was perfect. The spiritual awakening means we are listening, and we know when to open up and when to let things be. God can use us for his purpose, and we can be a conduit of hope for others who are struggling as long as we remain humble and willing.

some of the principles we practice are acceptance, non-judgment, and compassion. We use this in our daily lives, with our children, our parents, our spouse, our coworkers, our friends, and others in our community. Everyone has shortcomings of some sort, even us in our awakened state. We have learned to identify them as they come up and weโ€™re not afraid to address them and change. Itโ€™s a lifelong process and if weโ€™re willing to play with the Universe, itโ€™s a fun journey. Hardly any of us have been spared the negative teachings of the world. What weโ€™ve learned through working these steps is that we are OK, our Higher Power is with us, what happened to us doesnโ€™t define who we are, and itโ€™s far more wonderful to be happy than be right. We had always made mistakes, and we still will, but our perspective has shifted so that weโ€™re not emotionally attached to them anymore. Nothing is important enough to sacrifice our inner peace and connection to our Higher Power. ย

For most of us, we want to make the world a better place. We canโ€™t do it by pointing out all thatโ€™s wrong. We focus on solutions only to the things we have the power to change, and the things that are going well, so we have ever-present well-being. We give our children a sense of inner peace and belonging by investing our time and love with them. We become better teachers, better parents, better spouses, better lovers, better neighbors, and better friends. We see the world through our own eyes, and we know we can change our perspective when we want to. We are in control of our thoughts and emotions. We easily do the right thing because we always seek what is the loving thing to do in any situation. On the surface, it may seem at times that we are self-sacrificing to others, but we know the bigger picture, and nothing could be further from the truth. God is in charge, and as we do His will, we have an inner knowing that everything is as it should be. As we practice this, our energetic vibration raises, and we attract better and better things into our life experience. It truly is a wonderful existence and life is good. We choose.
