Step Three: Made a Decision to Turn Our Will and Our Lives Over to the Care of God As We Understood Him
In Step Three, we make the decision to turn everything over to God. We realize that the more we try to control people, places, and circumstances, the more of a mess we make. Turning over our lives is a big decision. It means relinquishing the need to control and handing it over to something bigger that we may not even truly believe in. We may say we believe in God, our Higher Power, but do we really?
I believe at this stage; we get a lot of grace. God knows it’s hard to give it up and turn it over but it’s something we must do to truly trust. If we pay even a little attention we should begin to feel, see, and hear things giving us clues that God is, and we are important to that divine being. These clues may be hearing a voice, feeling a tap, sensing someone around us, getting precognitive information, or simply receiving a feeling of well-being.
I got my moment of awakening at a time when my life was out of control with my first husband, an alcoholic and addict. It was a traumatic time. One day, when the worst was over and I was sitting in the rubble trying to make sense of what happened, I picked up some books on Edgar Cayce that a friend had given me several years before. In one of the books, I read that “Our purpose for being here is to get back to our Creator”. (I wanted to get the exact wording, so I went to Google. As soon as I typed “Edgar Cayce” this statement is what came up. Just saying!) The lightbulb went off in my head and I got it. I spent the day sitting with it, and I knew that statement to be true. I felt it in my gut, in my heart and I was overwhelmed with relief that an answer had come from a higher dimension. I wasn’t alone and all would be well.
Once we get to this point, we can really begin our journey into the forest of self-discovery and find out just what that connection really means. We can peek into the inner darkness without fear. That’s where the light can be seen more clearly. The more we experience our connection with God, our Creator, the more we want that. We make the decision to turn our will and our life over now because we want something more than what was. From our inner suffering, God breaths meaning into life. We’re ready to go deeper down the rabbit hole.
